Show & Tell
Hey builders 👋
I’ve been experimenting with monetizing my AI app and wanted to share what’s actually working (and what didn’t).
There are so many AI tools launching every day, so monetization needs to be clear, simple, and value-driven.
Here’s my current strategy:
💰 1. Freemium Model (Best for Growth)
I offer:
Free plan with limited usage (credits / features)
Paid plans with higher limits + premium features
Why it works:
Reduces friction
Lets users test real value before paying
Great for organic growth
Key lesson: Limit by usage count, not by crippling core value.
🔄 2. Monthly / Annual Subscriptions
Most users prefer predictable pricing.
My structure:
Starter – basic usage
Pro – higher limits + automation
Business – API access / priority support
Annual plan = 20–30% discount to improve cash flow.
Recurring revenue > one-time payments.
⚡ 3. Credit-Based System
For AI apps, credits work extremely well.
Example:
1 blog = 5 credits
1 image = 3 credits
1 automation task = 10 credits
This keeps costs aligned with API usage.
Pro tip: Don’t charge per token publicly. Charge per action (much easier to understand).
🏷 4. Lifetime Deal (Carefully)
I launched a limited LTD to:
Get early users
Collect testimonials
Validate pricing
But I capped it to avoid long-term support issues.
🤝 5. Affiliate / Marketplace Upsell
Extra revenue streams:
Affiliate tools inside the dashboard
Template marketplace
Add-ons (extra storage, automation packs)
Small upsells increase ARPU without increasing churn.
📊 6. White-Label / Agency Plan
Agencies are willing to pay 3–10x more.
Offer:
Custom branding
Higher limits
Client accounts
API access
B2B plans scale much faster than B2C.
What DIDN’T Work For Me
❌ One-time payment only
❌ Too many pricing tiers
❌ Complicated token pricing
❌ Hiding pricing
Biggest Lesson
Monetization is not about squeezing users.
It’s about aligning price with value and cost.
If your AI app:
Saves time → charge per workflow
Makes money → charge % or premium tier
Replaces a tool → price slightly below that tool
Curious — how are you monetizing your AI app?
Subscription, credits, ads, enterprise deals?
